Cypress 24/25

When it's absolutely too cold

The web cam showed about 10 CM of snow in 24 hours. Some areas had nice corduroy (like Humpty) while other spots were rutted and bumpy (like mid Horizon). Partial blue sky.

Day 44 - Better than expected. Warm temps + 8cm overnight + morning drizzle suggested velcro-boarding.

My last "velco-boarding" session (Feb 25) was miserable constantly pulling me heel side.

I theorized my posi-posi stance (+6° / +24°) in fresh snow (worse when heavy) was pulling me to heel side. Today, I switched to a duck stance (-6° / +12°) for experimental purposes.

IT WORKED !!! The duck stance messed up my carving on the groomers ... but once I dropped in 8cm fresh heavy snow, it worked like a charm. No more pulling to heel side and toe side turns are sooooo much easier. In fact, riding the bumps and moguls today was soooo much fun.

Maybe I don't need a pow board after all ... hmmm

Had some great turns at Cypress this morning. About 15-20 CM of new snow on the higher parts of the mountain. There was a bit of density in the upper layer of the snow so you had to exagerate your unweighting and set your edges when turning. I left at 11:30 AM and it was still snowing heavily.

Day 45 - 15 cm of heavy snow got packed down and tracked out quickly ... no problem with my new duck stance (-6° / +12°). Bumps were fun.

According to the Cypress website they had 30 CM in 24 hours at mid mountain. They didn't open Lions until 10:30 AM but lucked out on being the third one down Humpty. Lots of fresh tracks today. Olympic was the run of the day!

Hey you snowboard experts, does rub on, or glide wax work for a day or half day? I’m in Whistler and forgot to wax my very dry board. I’m wondering if there’s any Rub on stuff that I can buy in the morning, that may help my day. Cheers, thanks for any opinions or recommendations.
