Halibut bank

When there's absolutely no wind

by keeldude » Mon Oct 13, 2025 7:28 pm

I've been working on a new wave dashboard to replace the one that I had previously.

It's aim is to provide a snapshot of the wave conditions in the strait.

It's pretty bare Bones but I'll be adding to it over the next several months.

Alton if you see this, you can swap the link to my old website (604windswell), as this will be replacing it.

Cheers

Hey Keeldude - well done on your new site.

I replaced the 604windswell link and entitled it "Salish Sea Wave Conditions"

Do you get your data feed from
https://dd.weather.gc.ca/today/observat ... ml/latest/ ?

Thanks and yes that's the one! I'm trying out the Env Can AMQT application which grabs the data right as it is published (previously, I just pinged the API frequently)

Working on some updates for the wave conditions website...

Will be posting a Hind cast which tracks how accurately the storm surge forecast is working, comparing the 48-hour lead time forecast to The observed tidal offset.

Added a few more wave buoys like Neah Bay and New Dungeness ( formerly Hein
bank). Can add more buoys like La Perouse and Beyond if there's interest.

Still waiting to hear back from Surrey to get access to the API for their wave monitoring stations in boundary Bay....

Let me know if there are any features that you can't find on big wave Dave, that might interest you
