Monday Sp’akw’us Feather Park review.
15 to 25. A bit choppy. Wind lasted well into the evening. Wingers on 2.5 to 5.0. Windsurfers on 4.5 to 5.5.

Too holey then too gusty to learn kite foiling today. Only a couple of attempts before returning to my comfort zone ... 8m + surfboard.

Too holey then too gusty to learn kite foiling today. Only a couple of attempts before returning to my comfort zone ... 8m + surfboard.

You call that gusty . See Harrison Lake's graph below. Having said this, although it's been quite a while since I've sailed Squamish, I do recall the higher average wind speed makes Squamish gustiness worse. Having said THAT, I do observe that foiling can make even gusty wind fun still (as Harrison was today). Rig for closer to the gust then once on the foil you can often glide through lulls (sometimes at good speed).

Finally - perfect conditions to learn kite foiling. Super steady SW 16-18 and flat water. Plenty of rides port tack and some starboard (my weak side). Even returned to the sandbar and forced to fly high over the shallows.

Today, I worked on staying stacked over my front leg by visualizing following though a golf swing my front leg fully planted.

Early start was perfect SW 16-18 conditions for learning kite foiling. 1.5 hrs staying upwind both port and starboard (taxi-ing and flying). Gradually got wavier then called it a day after waves got too big and disorganized in stronger wind.

Hoping for similar tomorrow (Sunday).

Saturday afternoon at Sp’akw’us Feather Park was quite strong in the afternoon. 25+ knots. Eventually getting more gusty. Wind stayed strong for a couple of hours.

Caught the first boat before it broke down. 5 of us had the Spit all to ourselves for a couple of hours. Cloudier than expected. Started kite foiling almost an hour before hitting a dead zone heading towards the highway. Struggled in light air so asked Alton Jr to take it in for me. She also struggled so went back to the surfboard in the windier spots.

Called it a day just when the boat's steering was repaired.

Late start at 3pm due to boat maintenance but excellent day to learn kite foiling in SW 18 with small waves/chop. Spending more time on foil but still very wobbly. Just need more time on the water.

Early start so spent more time on foil (less taxi-ing). Still very wobbly on foil but good experience in wavy/choppy conditions. Switched to Alton Jr's 5m kite + surfboard when the wind ramped up to steady SW 25-30. Waves down at Nexen were super fun.
